Tips for Staying Safe Online

5 ways to protect your business when transacting online

Businesses today are facing a growing number of fraudulent schemes. There are defensive and protective actions you can take to fend off a number of common fraud strategies.

1. Apply security in layers

Think about rings of security that are more restrictive as data and actions becomes more sensitive. This can include multi-factor authentication for system administrators or for certain business functions, such as money movement or system configuration changes. Requiring more than a user ID and password for remote access can greatly increase your network security. Additionally, business system processes can be enhanced for additional validation steps for functions like changing payment accounts or wiring funds requirements.

2. Data encryption

A strong control and safety feature is the ability to encrypt your sensitive data at rest and in motion. Be careful about emailing sensitive data through the internet without encrypting.

3. User access credential protection

Keeping your credentials safe is a primary concern. Passwords and secret questions should not be stored unencrypted. EQ will not ask you for your password.

4. Session management

Don’t leave sessions unexpired or leave your system without locking it.

5. Report suspected fraud or phishing emails
